Non-traditional + Unique Bridal Inspo for my Fellow Enneagram 4's
In 2020 I did a lot of self-reflecting (because I had a lot more time haha, thank you covid?) and dove into the enneagram a bit more and learned that I am a pretty strong Type 4. All of a sudden I understood why it’s always mattered so much to me to be unique and creative in my every day expression! And for the seasons of my life when I didn’t put effort into expressing my unique-ness, the blue feelings I had make sense. When Taylor and I got married, that whole season was such a blur of young love that I hardly cared at all about how any of it looked!! Just as long as we were married - nothing else mattered!
BUT — I am not so secretly hoping we will renew our vows in the next few years so that I can put a bit more effort into it all ;) Because even though at the end of the day the looks and aesthetics and dresses and “all the things” don’t matter, they still kind of do. Especially if you’re like me; it matters. It’s all an outward expression of an inward desire and love of beauty! And that is so GOOD — I mean, look at how detailed and intricate every single flower is; all of Creation is the most stunning piece of art. Jesus is a freaking Artist. He gets it, the longing for beauty. That realization has honestly brought me a lot of peace!
Back to weddings and bridals — I’m saying all of this just to encourage the bride who feels what I feel.
Girl — you are a MASTERPIECE. And however you want to express all of you on your wedding day — go for it!
This is your permission to NOT DO WHAT EVERYONE ELSE IS DOING.
You don’t have to wear a dress that looks like everyone else’s! Get married wherever you want to get married that reflects you and your relationship! Tradition is dead! In all respect haha! Your wedding day is a massively huge, meaningful crazy day. You are covenanting the rest of your life to your partner. Every part of it should be done with care, is all I’m saying. Let your wedding day and all the details reflect what you want it to reflect.
Here is your permission to be non-traditional. To be your unique, beautiful self. Express yourself, girl! You are a masterpiece!! If you’re like, ok awesome — where do I start? Here are some ideas!!
Start a mood board on Pinterest! Just start pinning dresses and details that you’re drawn to. Check out my Non-traditional Wedding board if you want for ideas!
Once you have an idea of what you like — I do think finding your dress is a great place to start. I love love love The Dress Theory because all of the gowns they carry are unique and thoughtfully designed by their select designers. The gals who work there are really wonderful and will be a huge help to you as well. They will encourage you to step out of the box and find the right dress for YOU.
After you’ve found your dress, you don’t have to put all the pressure on yourself to come up with a whole design/look/concept! I really love working with the gals at HostedBy; Hannah and Kate are unbelievably talented at bringing wedding day visions and feelings to life. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by everything — I promise they will fight for your unique vision and make it happen.
I just think your wedding day is THE time and place to really invest in what makes you, you :) I could keep going on this topic for forever but I’ll stop here for now.
To all my non-traditional gals out there — I fully support your wedding day looking however you want it to look! Can’t wait to see what you come up with!!
